Cheesy Taco Casserole Recipe

Ingredients

Meat Layer

  • 500 g (1 lb) ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
    (or 1 tsp paprika + 1 tsp cumin + ยฝ tsp chili powder + salt)

Creamy Layer

  • 1 cup sour cream
    (or thick yogurt)
  • 4 oz (115 g) cream cheese, softened

Other Layers

  • 2 cups crushed tortilla chips or 6 small tortillas
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar or Mexican blend cheese

Toppings

  • ยฝ cup sliced black olives
  • 1 fresh jalapeรฑo, sliced
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • Fresh cilantro

Instructions

  1. Cook the beef
    Sautรฉ onion in a pan, add beef and garlic. Cook until browned. Stir in taco seasoning.
  2. Make creamy mixture
    Mix sour cream and cream cheese until smooth.
  3. Assemble casserole
    • Base layer: tortilla chips or tortillas
    • Beef layer
    • Creamy layer
    • Cheese
      Repeat once.
  4. Bake
    • 180ยฐC (350ยฐF)
    • 25โ€“30 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  5. Finish & serve
    Add olives, jalapeรฑos, tomatoes, and cilantro on top. Let rest 5 minutes before slicing.
