Ingredients
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup milk
2 1/2 cups finely chopped onions (about 2-3 medium onions)
Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
Prepare the Batter:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Gradually add the milk, stirring until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
Add the Onions:
Fold in the finely chopped onions until they are evenly coated with the batter.
Heat the Oil:
In a large skillet or frying pan, heat about 1/2 inch of vegetable oil over medium heat. The oil should be hot enough that a drop of batter sizzles immediately when added to the pan.
Fry the Fritters:
Carefully drop spoonfuls of the onion batter into the hot oil, flattening them slightly with the back of the spoon.
Fry the fritters in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan.
Cook each fritter for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
Drain and Serve:
Using a slotted spoon, transfer the fried fritters to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
Serve hot and enjoy the crispy, flavorful Amish Onion Fritters.
These fritters make a delicious snack or side dish, perfect for any meal!!!
