A refreshing summer dessert with the zesty punch of orange in every bite.
Ingredients:
1 box white cake mix
3 egg whites
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 cup water
3/4 cup cold orange soda
3.5 oz orange gelatin mix
3/4 cup boiling water
12 oz whipped topping
Orange sprinkles (jimmies)
Directions:
Bake the Cake:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Spray a 9×13 inch baking pan with non-stick cooking spray.
In a large bowl, combine cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and egg whites. Beat on low speed until well combined.
Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let the cake cool in the pan.
Make the Filling:
Boil 3/4 cup of water and dissolve the orange gelatin mix in it.
Stir in the cold orange soda.
Poke holes across the top of the cooled cake, about every 1/2 inch, using a skewer or fork.
Pour the gelatin mixture over the cake, ensuring it seeps into the holes. Let the cake cool completely, about 1 hour.
Add the Topping and Chill:
Spread whipped topping evenly over the cooled cake.
Refrigerate for a couple of hours to set.
Sprinkle with orange jimmies just before serving.
