Makes: 12–16 pieces
Prep Time: 10 min | Bake Time: 15–20 min

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup sugar (adjust if making savory)
  • ½ cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional, for sweet version)
  • Optional fillings: jam, chocolate, or cheese

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven:
    • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Make the dough:
    • In a large bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
    • Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
    • Add egg (and vanilla if sweet). Mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Shape the banycski:
    • Take small pieces of dough, roll into balls or cylinders.
    • If using a filling, flatten dough, add a small spoonful, and fold over to seal.
  4. Bake:
    • Place on prepared baking sheet. Bake for 15–20 minutes until lightly golden.
  5. Serve:
    • Let cool slightly, but honestly… they’re impossible to resist right out of the oven!

💡 Tips:

  • For a savory version, skip sugar and add a bit of grated cheese or herbs to the dough.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days, but they rarely last that long!
  • Perfect for breakfast, snacks, or dessert—quick, simple, and incredibly addictive.
