Makes: 4 bagels
Syns: ~2 Syns each (if flour not counted as HEB)
Ingredients
- 200g self-raising flour (28 Syns total)
- 200g fat-free cottage cheese (Syn-free)
- 1 egg (for dough)
- 1 beaten egg (for glaze)
- Pinch of salt
- Optional toppings: sesame seeds, onion flakes, or everything bagel seasoning (Syns vary – usually minimal)
Method
- Preheat oven to 180°C (fan 160°C). Line a baking tray with parchment.
- In a bowl, mix flour, cottage cheese, egg, and salt until a dough forms.
- Lightly flour a surface and knead dough for 1–2 minutes until smooth.
- Divide into 4 pieces, roll into balls, then poke a hole in the centre to shape into bagels.
- Place on baking tray, brush with beaten egg, and sprinkle with toppings if using.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
- Let cool slightly before slicing.
Syn Breakdown (whole batch):
- Self-raising flour = 28 Syns
- Egg & cottage cheese = Free
= 28 Syns ÷ 4 = 7 Syns each
👉 If you use flour as part of your Healthy Extra B choice, Syns reduce to 2 Syns per bagel.
Lovely toasted and topped with smoked salmon, lean ham, or extra cottage cheese with herbs.
Freezable – just slice before freezing so they’re easy to toast.
