Tender, buttery cake with sweet cinnamon apples baked right on top. A simple comfort dessert that never fails!
Ingredients
For the cake:
- ½ cup (113g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1⅔ cups (330g) granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1½ tsp vanilla extract
- 1½ cups (190g) all-purpose flour
- 1½ tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp salt
- ½ cup (120ml) milk
For the topping:
- 2 medium apples (any firm variety), peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat & Prep:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan or springform pan. - Cream Butter & Sugar:
In a large bowl, beat together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. - Add Eggs & Vanilla:
Beat in the eggs, one at a time. Stir in the vanilla extract. - Combine Dry Ingredients:
In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Stir just until combined — don’t overmix! - Assemble:
Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
Arrange the sliced apples over the batter in a circular pattern. - Cinnamon-Sugar Finish:
In a small bowl, mix the 2 tbsp sugar and 1 tsp cinnamon. Sprinkle evenly over the apples. - Bake:
Bake for 40–50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean and the top is golden and crisp. - Cool & Serve:
Let cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm or at room temp. Optional: top with whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
