Ingredients

For the Bread Pudding

  • 6 cups cubed white bread (day-old or slightly dried is best)
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2½ cups milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp butter (melted)

For the Vanilla Sauce

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp butter

Instructions

1. Prepare the bread pudding mixture

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together:

  • Eggs
  • Milk
  • Vanilla extract
  • Sugar
  • Cinnamon
  • Salt

Add in:

  • Cubed bread
  • Raisins
  • Melted butter

Mix until the bread is fully soaked.

2. Bake the bread pudding

Pour the bread mixture into a greased 9×13 baking dish.
Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until the top is golden and the center is set (not wobbly).

3. Make the vanilla sauce

While the bread pudding is baking, make the vanilla sauce:

In a saucepan, combine:

  • Heavy cream
  • Sugar
  • Vanilla extract
  • Butter

Heat over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until the sauce is warm and the sugar has dissolved.
Do not bring to a boil.

4. Serve

Once the bread pudding is done, remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes.
Serve warm with the vanilla sauce drizzled over the top.

Storage

Fridge:

  • Keeps for 3–4 days in an airtight container.
  • Reheat in the microwave or oven.

Freezer:

  • Freeze the bread pudding (without sauce) for up to 1 month.
  • Thaw overnight and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 15–20 minutes.
  • Freeze sauce separately for best results.

Flavor Upgrade Tips

  • Add chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans) to the bread pudding mixture
  • Stir in some dark chocolate chips for extra richness
  • Swap raisins with dried cranberries or cherries
  • Add a dash of nutmeg or cloves for a spiced version
  • Use almond extract instead of vanilla for a different flavor profile
