Cheese & Bacon Puff Pastry Twists

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
  • 6–8 slices cooked bacon (or turkey bacon)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
  • 2 tbsp cream cheese or mayonnaise (optional for creaminess)
  • ½ red bell pepper, finely diced (optional)
  • 1 green onion or small bunch of chives, chopped
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tbsp milk or water (to mix with egg wash)
  • Fresh parsley or dried oregano, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven:
    Set oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare filling:
    In a bowl, mix cheese, chopped bacon, green onions, and cream cheese (if using). Add diced bell pepper for color and sweetness.
  3. Assemble pastry twists:
    • Roll out the puff pastry slightly on a floured surface.
    • Cut it into rectangles (about 3×6 inches).
    • Spoon a thin line of filling down the center of each piece.
    • Fold the pastry over the filling lengthwise and gently twist each strip (as shown in the top image).
    • Place on the baking tray, leaving space between each.
  4. Brush and bake:
    Mix the egg and milk for egg wash, then brush over the tops of the pastries.
    Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
  5. Finish and serve:
    Sprinkle with parsley or oregano after baking. Serve warm — perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a party snack!
