Servings & Timing
- Yield: 4โ6 servings
- Prep Time: 15 minutes
- Chill Time: 2 hours
- Total Time: ~2 hours 15 minutes
Ingredients
- 8 oz (225g) dark chocolate (70% cocoa or your preference)
- 1 cup heavy cream, chilled
- 3 tbsp powdered sugar (or granulated sugar)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
- 1 large egg yolk (optional, for extra richness)
Instructions
- Melt the chocolate โ In a heatproof bowl, melt the dark chocolate gently over a double boiler or in the microwave, stirring every 30 seconds. Once melted, set aside to cool slightly.
- Whip the cream โ In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream and powdered sugar together until soft peaks form. Donโt overwhip.
- Prepare the chocolate mixture โ If using an egg yolk, whisk it into the melted chocolate, then stir in the vanilla extract. Let the chocolate cool for a few minutes so it doesnโt melt the cream.
- Fold the chocolate and cream together โ Gently fold the whipped cream into the chocolate, making sure you donโt deflate the mixture.
- Chill โ Spoon the mousse into individual serving dishes or glasses. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours to allow the mousse to set.
- Serve โ Once chilled, garnish with shaved chocolate, whipped cream, or berries if desired, and enjoy!
Additional Notes

- Add-ins: For extra flavor, add a tablespoon of coffee or liqueur to the melted chocolate for a mocha twist.
