Ingredients
For the Filling
- 1 lb (450 g) lean ground beef
- 1 cup shredded cabbage
- ½ cup grated carrots
- ½ cup diced onion
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp fresh ginger, minced
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp black pepper
For Assembly
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 12 egg roll wrappers
- Water, for sealing the wrappers
- Vegetable oil, for frying
For Serving
- Sweet chili sauce
Instructions
1. Prepare the Filling
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it into small crumbles as it cooks.
Add the diced onion, garlic, and ginger. Cook for 2–3 minutes until fragrant.
Stir in the shredded cabbage and grated carrots. Add the soy sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Cook for another 4–5 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender and the mixture is well combined.
Remove from the heat and allow the filling to cool slightly.
2. Assemble the Egg Rolls
Lay an egg roll wrapper on a clean surface with one corner facing you.
Place a spoonful of the beef mixture in the center and top with shredded mozzarella cheese.
Fold the bottom corner over the filling, fold in the sides, then roll tightly toward the top corner. Brush the edge with water and press firmly to seal.
Repeat with the remaining wrappers.
3. Fry Until Crispy
Heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C) in a deep skillet or saucepan.
Carefully fry the egg rolls in batches for 4–5 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are evenly golden brown and crispy.
Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
4. Serve
Serve hot with sweet chili sauce for dipping.
Tips & Variations
- Substitute cheddar, Monterey Jack, or pepper jack cheese for a different flavor.
- Add chopped mushrooms or bell peppers to the filling for extra vegetables.
- For a lighter version, brush the egg rolls with oil and bake at 400°F (200°C) for 18–20 minutes, turning halfway through, or air fry at 390°F (200°C) for 10–12 minutes until crispy.
