Crunchy Popcorn Shrimp Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (455 g) shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (125 g)
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp paprika (optional, for extra flavor)
  • ยฝ tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs or panko (for coating)
  • Oil, for frying

Instructions:

  1. Prep Shrimp:
    Pat the shrimp dry with a paper towel. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
  2. Make Coating Stations:
    • Bowl 1: Flour mixed with salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.
    • Bowl 2: Whisk egg and milk together.
    • Bowl 3: Breadcrumbs (or panko for extra crunch).
  3. Coat Shrimp:
    • Dredge each shrimp first in the seasoned flour.
    • Dip into the egg wash.
    • Roll in breadcrumbs until fully coated.
      (Tip: Press lightly to help the coating stick.)
  4. Fry:
    Heat oil in a deep pan (about 350ยฐF / 175ยฐC). Fry shrimp in small batches for 2โ€“3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Do not overcrowd the pan.
  5. Drain:
    Remove shrimp with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towelโ€“lined plate to drain excess oil.
  6. Serve:
    Enjoy hot with ketchup, tartar sauce, garlic mayo, or a spicy dipping sauce.
