A classic layered Tex-Mex salad with beans, salsa, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, olives, and green onions — perfect for parties!


Ingredients

Base Layer

  • 1 can refried beans or 1 lb (450 g) cooked ground beef
  • ½ tsp ground cumin
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • Salt & black pepper to taste

Creamy Layer

  • 250 ml sour cream
  • 250 ml salsa

Cheese Layer

  • 250 ml (1 cup) grated cheddar cheese

Fresh Layers

  • 250 ml (1 cup) shredded lettuce
  • 125 ml (½ cup) diced tomatoes
  • 125 ml (½ cup) sliced black olives
  • 60 ml (¼ cup) chopped green onions

To Serve

  • Tortilla chips

🧑‍🍳 Instructions

1. Prepare the Base

If using refried beans:

  • Warm them in a pan with cumin, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Spread evenly in the bottom of a shallow serving dish.

If using ground beef:

  • Cook beef in a skillet until browned.
  • Add cumin, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Spread in the dish as the first layer.

2. Add Creamy Layers

  • Spread sour cream evenly over the beans/beef.
  • Spoon salsa over the sour cream.

3. Add the Cheese

  • Sprinkle cheddar cheese evenly over the salsa.

4. Add Fresh Toppings

In this order:

  1. Shredded lettuce
  2. Diced tomatoes
  3. Black olives
  4. Green onions

5. Serve

  • Chill for 20–30 minutes for best flavor.
  • Serve with tortilla chips for dipping—or scoop and eat like a salad.
