A delightful and addictive treat that combines the perfect balance of sweet and salty, making it an irresistible holiday snack!

Ingredients:

– 40 saltine crackers (about 1 sleeve)

– 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)

– 1 cup packed brown sugar

– 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

– 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

– Sea salt, for sprinkling

Directions:

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and lightly grease it.

Arrange the Crackers: Place the saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, covering the entire surface.

Make the Toffee: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter and brown sugar together, stirring constantly. Bring the mixture to a boil and let it boil for 3 minutes without stirring.

Pour the Toffee: Carefully pour the hot toffee mixture over the saltine crackers, spreading it evenly with a spatula to cover all the crackers.

Bake the Crack: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 5-7 minutes, until the toffee is bubbly and the crackers are slightly golden.

Add the Chocolate: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and immediately sprinkle the semi-sweet chocolate chips over the hot toffee. Let them sit for a few minutes to melt, then spread the melted chocolate evenly over the toffee layer.

Add Nuts and Sea Salt: If using, sprinkle the chopped pecans or walnuts over the melted chocolate. Finish by sprinkling a pinch of sea salt on top for an extra flavor boost.

Cool and Break Apart: Allow the Christmas Crack to cool completely at room temperature, or place it in the refrigerator to speed up the process. Once cooled, break it into pieces and enjoy!
