Ingredients

For the Dough

  • 500g all-purpose flour
  • 10g instant yeast
  • 30g sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 250ml warm milk or water
  • 60g butter, softened
  • 1 egg

For the Filling

  • 500g minced beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 cup mixed vegetables (carrots, peas, and sweetcorn)
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tbsp flour (optional, for thickening)

For the Egg Wash

  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp milk

Instructions

1. Prepare the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.

Add the warm milk, egg, and softened butter.

Mix until a dough forms, then knead for 8โ€“10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

2. Make the Filling

Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat.

Cook the diced onion until softened.

Add the minced beef and cook until browned.

Stir in the mixed vegetables, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.

If desired, sprinkle in the flour and stir until the mixture thickens slightly.

Remove from the heat and allow the filling to cool completely.

3. Assemble the Pie

Preheat the oven to 180ยฐC (350ยฐF).

Line a baking tray with parchment paper.

Divide the dough into two equal portions.

Roll each portion into a large circle.

Place one dough circle on the prepared baking tray.

Spread the cooled filling evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.

Place the second dough circle on top and press the edges together.

Seal the edges with a fork.

4. Add the Egg Wash

Whisk together the egg and milk.

Brush the entire surface of the pie with the egg wash.

Cut a few small slits in the top to allow steam to escape.

5. Bake

Bake for 30โ€“35 minutes, or until the crust is deep golden brown.

6. Serve

Allow the pie to cool for 10 minutes before slicing.

Cut into wedges and serve warm.

Serving Tip

Serve with a fresh salad, coleslaw, or a side of roasted vegetables for a complete family meal. Leftovers reheat beautifully and make an excellent next-day lunch.
