Ingredients

  • ½ cup apple cider
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

1. Heat the apple cider

In a medium saucepan, heat the apple cider over medium heat.
Bring it to a simmer and cook for about 10 minutes until reduced by half. This will intensify the apple flavor.

2. Make the caramel

Add the sugar to a separate saucepan over medium heat.
Stir constantly as the sugar melts and turns into a golden brown caramel, about 5 minutes.

3. Combine cider and caramel

Once the sugar is melted, add the reduced apple cider to the caramel.
Be careful — it may bubble up! Stir to combine.

4. Add cream and butter

Slowly stir in:

  • Heavy cream
  • Butter

Allow the sauce to simmer for an additional 3–5 minutes, until smooth and thickened. Stir occasionally.

5. Finish the sauce

Remove the sauce from heat and stir in:

  • Vanilla extract
  • A pinch of salt to balance the sweetness.

Let the sauce cool slightly before serving.

Storage

Fridge:

  • Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
