This recipe transforms lobster tails into an luxurious, restaurant-quality meal with a rich, cheesy, and garlicky sauce that perfectly complements the sweet lobster meat.
Ingredients:
For the Lobster Tails:
- 4 (6-8 oz each)ย lobster tails, thawed if frozen
- 3 tbspย butter, melted
- 3ย garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tbspย fresh lemon juice
- ยฝ tspย smoked paprikaย (highly recommended for depth)
- Saltย andย black pepper, to taste
- Optional Garnish:ย Fresh chopped parsley or chives, lemon wedges
For the Creamy Garlic Cheese Sauce:
- 3 tbspย butter
- 3ย garlic cloves, minced
- ยฝ cupย heavy creamย (whipping cream)
- ยฝ cupย shredded mozzarella cheese
- ยผ cupย freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- A pinch ofย nutmegย (optional, but classic for cream sauces)
- Saltย andย white pepper, to taste (black pepper is fine, white is more aesthetic)
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Lobster Tails:
- Preheat your oven toย 425ยฐF (220ยฐC).
- Using kitchen shears, carefully cut down the top of the lobster shell lengthwise, from the open end to the tip of the tail.ย Stop at the tail fin.
- Use your fingers to gently pry the meat away from the shell, keeping it attached at the base. Lift the meat up and rest it on top of the split shell. This is known as โbutterflying.โ
- Place the prepared tails in a baking dish or oven-safe skillet.
2. Make the Garlic Butter Baste:
- In a small bowl, combine the 3 tablespoons of melted butter, minced garlic, lemon juice, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Brush this garlic butter mixture generously over the exposed lobster meat.
3. Bake the Lobster Tails:
- Bake forย 12-15 minutes, or until the lobster meat is opaque, firm to the touch, and the shells are bright red. The cooking time will depend on the size of the tails.ย Do not overcook,ย as the meat will become tough.
4. Make the Creamy Garlic Cheese Sauce:
- While the lobster is baking, prepare the sauce. In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the 3 tablespoons of butter.
- Add the minced garlic and sautรฉ forย 30-60 secondsย until fragrant, but not browned.
- Pour in the heavy cream and bring to a gentle simmer. Let it cook for 1-2 minutes to slightly thicken.
- Reduce the heat to low. Gradually whisk in the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese until completely melted and smooth.
- Stir in the pinch of nutmeg (if using) and season with salt and pepper to taste. Keep warm on low heat, stirring occasionally.
5. Serve:
- Remove the lobster tails from the oven. For a beautiful finish, you can broil them for the last 1-2 minutes for a more golden top (watch closely!).
- Transfer the baked lobster tails to serving plates. Generously drizzle the warm creamy garlic cheese sauce over the top.
- Garnish with fresh parsley or chives and serve immediately with lemon wedges on the side.
Serving Suggestions & Chefโs Notes:
-
Classic Sides:ย This rich dish pairs beautifully with:
- Steamed asparagusย orย sautรฉed green beans
- Garlic mashed potatoesย orย risottoย to soak up the extra sauce
- A simpleย garden saladย with a light vinaigrette to cut through the richness
- Donโt Overcook:ย This is the most important rule with lobster. The meat is done when it turns from translucent to opaque white and registersย 135-140ยฐF (57-60ยฐC)ย on an instant-read thermometer.
- Sauce Consistency:ย If your sauce becomes too thick upon standing, simply whisk in a tablespoon of warm cream or milk to loosen it up.
- Luxury Upgrade:ย For an even more decadent sauce, stir in a tablespoon of cream cheese along with the shredded cheeses.
Enjoy your spectacular, gourmet-quality meal thatโs surprisingly easy to make at home
