Servings & Timing

  • Servings: 6–8 flatbreads
  • Prep Time: 15 minutes
  • Rest Time: 30–45 minutes
  • Cook Time: 10–12 minutes
  • Total Time: About 1 hour

Ingredients

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast
  • ¾ cup warm water (adjust as needed)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (plus more for frying)

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast.
Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.

Step 2: Make the Dough

In a large bowl, combine flour and salt.

Add yeast mixture and oil.

Mix until dough forms.

Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and soft.

Step 3: Let It Rise

Cover the dough and let rest in a warm place for 30–45 minutes until slightly doubled.

Step 4: Divide & Shape

Divide dough into 6–8 pieces.

Roll each into a round disc about ½ cm thick.

Step 5: Fry

Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.

Fry each flatbread 1–2 minutes per side until golden and puffed.

Press lightly with a spoon to help it puff.

Step 6: Drain

Place on paper towels to remove excess oil.

Serve warm.

Texture Tips

  • Oil should be hot but not smoking.
  • Dough should be soft, not sticky.
  • Don’t roll too thin — they won’t puff properly.
