Potato, Meatball & Cheese Bake

Ingredients:

  • 3 large potatoes, boiled and sliced
  • 1 white onion, chopped
  • 400g (14 oz) cooked meatballs (beef, pork, or a mix)
  • 1โ€“2 cups shredded cheese (Gruyรจre, Emmental, or mozzarella)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme or herbs de Provence (optional)
  • ยฝ cup cream or milk (optional, for extra creaminess)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven:
    Preheat your oven to 200ยฐC (390ยฐF).
  2. Prepare Potatoes & Onion:
    Boil the potatoes until just tender (about 10โ€“15 minutes). Slice into ยฝ-inch rounds.
    Sautรฉ chopped onion in olive oil until soft and slightly caramelized.
  3. Layer the Bake:
    • Grease a baking dish with butter or oil.
    • Layer half the potato slices at the bottom.
    • Add half the meatballs on top.
    • Sprinkle half the onions and season with salt, pepper, and herbs.
    • Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, meatballs, and onions.
  4. Add Cheese & Cream:
    • Sprinkle shredded cheese generously on top.
    • Pour cream or milk evenly over the dish if using.
  5. Bake:
    • Cover loosely with foil and bake for 20 minutes.
    • Remove foil and bake another 10โ€“15 minutes until cheese is golden and bubbling.
  6. Serve:
    • Let it rest 5 minutes before serving.
    • Pair with a fresh salad or crusty bread for a full meal.
